Before And After
The ebb and flow of that event is still changing the face of Rockaway even today. What once stood for decades is now gone.
What is coming next is yet to be seen.
Here photographer Laura Deckelman captures the post-Sandy progression of the bungalows of Beach 111th Street.
On February 10th, they are snow covered, worn and battered. By Sunday, March 17th, all that’s left is a pile of rubble.
As Deckelman noted, “They were completely destroyed during Sandy, and just stood there for weeks, months ... Now they’re gone forever.”
And Rockaway is changed just a little more.
