It’s A Crime

Dear Editor,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the new flood maps. I do not even think that those responsible for revising these maps know what they were doing; very confusing.

In my opinion it is not only absurd but criminal what FEMA is trying to do to all of us. They are saying that homes will have to be raised or be subject to astronomical increases in premiums. Some of our homes cannot be raised and those that can, well, will be forced to pay out of their pockets again, while Washington stands around and does nothing.

So here’s my question: are they increasing rates to pay for SANDY payments which we are still waiting for? I think all of our elected officials who have not lifted a finger to help us should be required to spend a week living in the conditions that we are forced to live in because of their ineptness and unresponsiveness to the problems at hand.

Here’s another question, this one is for our elected officials. Why is it that citizens who have flood insurance are still waiting for payment when FEMA paid out to thousands who did not have flood insurance?

We pay year after year doing the right thing (getting flood insurance), and are penalized. There is something wrong here, very wrong and what is happening is criminal and those responsible should be held accountable.
