(Photos by Dan Guarino.) “All the bands killed it tonight!” one person posted about the three local groups that played the Grassy Point Bar and Grill in Broad Channel on Friday night, February 15th.

Mr. Big Deal opened up with a bouncing blend of covers and energetic originals which many in the crowd knew well enough to sing along with.

Heavy metal Medicine Spoon brought their own brand of growling instrumental and vocal sounds to the packed house, even inviting Poor House’s lead singer to join in. Rounding out a lively night of talented musicians, The Poor House effortlessly showcased their ability to get an audience moving. A highlight was Broad Channel brothers Mason and Frank Perretto, who organized the evening, effortlessly playing dueling guitar solos.

The full Friday night crowd was quite happy to be there. Some were surprised to find live music going on. Many had come, not only from Broad Channel and all over Rockaway, but also in from a variety of neighborhoods to which they have been displaced.
