Meet Grand Marshal Jack Ahern

Celebrating all things Irish, the Queens St. Patrick’s Day parade is ready to march on Saturday, March 2nd.

This year John (Jack) Ahern will carry the honor of being Grand Marshal to one of Rockaway’s biggest events. Ahern has been recognized for his work and dedication to the Irish-American and immigrant communities by several organizations over the years. Recognition has come from the County Cork Association when Ahern was named the Guest of Honor at the 2009 County Cork Association’s Special Anniversary Dinner Dance.

He was honored at a dinner for the 250th Anniversary of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March of 2011.

He currently serves on the Board of the Emerald Isle Immigration Association and was recognized at their 2011 Annual Dinner Dance for his continued work with the immigrant community.

In 2000, Ahern previously served as Grand Marshal of the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade

In his professional life, he serves as the elected Business Manager and Financial Secretary of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 30, a chief executive leadership position he has held since 1996.

From 2008-2011, Ahern served as President of the Central Labor Council (CLC) and from 2006-2008, he served as the Executive Vice President of the Central Labor Council (CLC).

Raised in Brooklyn, the son and grandson of union carpenters, he served as cochair of the Task Force on Public Benefit Agreements.

In addition to these leadership posts, Ahern serves as Vice-Chairperson to the NYC Municipal Labor Committee, Executive Board member of the New York Building Congress, and member of the Board of Trustees for Molloy College.
