Body Washes Up in Breezy Point
The body of a Jamaica, Queens woman was found washed up on a beach in Breezy Point on Saturday morning.
Marisha Cheong, 24, had been missing since December 19th. Her body was found with her hands bound with green rope. She was wearing pajama pants and one black Ugg boot.
Cheong was a student at Long Island University who grew up in Valley Stream. She was living with her boyfriend, Latchman Balkaran in Jamaica when she went missing.
He last heard from her when he received a text message from her asking him to pick her up at a subway station in Forest Hills on the night that she disappeared. He claims that she wasn’t at the train station when he went to get her.
Police questioned Balkaran about the disappearance but they do not consider him to be a suspect. However Cheong’s mother, Bibi Ali, believes Balkaran is hiding something.
“They found her in her pajamas! He has to know what happened to her,” Ali told the New York Daily News. “He 100% had something to do with this. He’s the only one that saw her last.”
Ali also noted that Balkaran was very overprotective of her daughter. He knew her passwords and would wait hours for her to finish school.
The cause of death is still under investigation. A medical examiner found that Cheong’s neck was fractured and hemorrhaging. She also had bruises on her hips and her thigh. It is not clear if these injuries occurred before or after her death.
