On February 2nd and 3rd the Fontbonne Hall Academy Girl’s swim team shocked the GCHSAA (Girl's Catholic High School Athletic Association) swim championships.

Fontbonne Hall Academy, who entered the meet with the best record in Brooklyn, had been unable to best their Staten Island rivals Notre Dame Academy and St. Joseph Hill. That all came to an end on Super Bowl Sunday.

While the rest of the sporting world was preparing for the NFL Championship game, a contingent of dedicated athletes was battling for their own glory at Eisenhower Park Aquatic Center.

While St. Joseph Hill Academy had their eye on Archbishop Molloy, they neglected to see Fontbonne in their rearview mirror. In defeating all of their Brooklyn and Staten Island rivals, the Bonnies finished second for the first time in their very long swimming history (over 45 years) and have elevated their swim team to what can only be looked at as one of the best of all private NYC high school swim programs.

Head Coach Kathi Kocur (second left) and her assistants Joe Verpone (far left), Bill Shea (far right ) K.J. Hanley (second right) and Laura Shea Delin (not pictured) were thrilled to see all of their hard work pay off and are now looking forward to next season.

The following swimmers won medals: Tara Muldoon 50 Free, 100 Free; Megan Rochelle 50 Free; Meghan Maloney 50 Free; Shannon Maroney 500 Free; Mary Jane Anderson 100 Backstroke; Laura Keim 100 Breaststroke.

Fontbonne will be losing ten seniors from their team however Coach Kocur is confident that they will be able to fill their spots with incoming freshman eager to be part of this elite squad.

Look out Molloy here come the girls from Bonnieland!!!
