Providing everything from bottled water and ice tea to cleaning supplies, shovels and mops, Rush is part of the New York Dream Center church’s Rockaway relief efforts.

Acting on their commitment to “Living Life and Living Love,” the Chelsea based church has been working in the area since Hurricane Sandy. On Saturday they had multiple teams of volunteers doing demolition, removing moldy dry wall, painting, putting up fresh walls, doing fencing and also debris removal.

According to Dream Center’s website, “Our ministry provides hope by meeting both the tangible and spiritual needs of those in our community.”

On Saturday, March 16th, they are organizing a Rockaway Restoration Day which will bring various church groups, non-profits and other organizations together to meet the needs of those affected by the hurricane.

The group notes they are prepared to clean and help decorate house interiors, tear down drywall, do basement excavation and cleaning, clean house exteriors and clear/excavate yards, do inhouse trash and junk removal and also do light plumbing.

Individuals can sign up for help in advance by e-mailing kayli.newyorkdreamcenter@gmail.com or calling 318-572-3879 and leaving their name, address, phone number and a description of the work their home needs.

Rush describes the work the church is doing as putting their faith into action. Or as a phrase at end of their ‘Rockaway Relief’ video, which shows the group’s work here, aptly puts it, “Find A Need And Fill it, Find A Hurt And Heal It.”
