St. John's Raises Heart Disease Awareness

St. John's Episcopal Hospital celebrated National Go Red for Women Day to raise awareness for heart disease on February 1st.

St. John’s teamed up with the American Heart Association to host the event revolving around the number one killer of women. St. John's Chief of Cardiology Sergio Sokol, MD gave a special talk on the risk factors of heart disease for women and Rockaway resident, Mary O’Hagan gave a special testimonial about her experience as a heart attack sufferer.

Nuclear medicine nurse Patricia Cernansky spoke with residents about the role of stress testing in the diagnosis of heart disease in women.

The St. John’s staff members wore red for the occasion while attendees received information on nutrition and exercise and free blood pressure screenings. The Visiting Nurse Service of New York also participated.
