Kings Bay Squad Rolling Along

The Rockaway chapter of Kings Bay’s Sub-Novice division, well rested off a bye week, cruised to a 13 point victory over Brooklyn USA on Sunday, February 3rd, at the Kings Bay gym.

Thomas Davey opened the scoring for Rockaway, nailing a jumper from 12 feet away. Matthew Glynn and Luca Perrotta didn’t let any of BUSA’s guards past them. Pete Maiorano sank two free throws. Dylan Loconte scored four in the frame as it looked like the route was on. Brooklyn USA would come back with their only bucket in the first and Sean O’Hagan drained a shot as Kings Bay closed the first quarter up 10-2.

Freddy Teich and Mikey O’Sullivan hammered the boards in the second and Nick Abernathy and James Walker played tight D, but B-USA’s point guard got hot as they closed the gap at halftime to 3. Rockaway now found themselves only leading 10-7 going into the break.

Both teams used the much needed rest to their advantage and came out running. Kings Bay and B-USA traded baskets back and forth.

Lenny Mannino got on the board, hitting the back end of two free throws. Aidan O’Sullivan fought hard and had a blocked shot and a rebound. Loconte added half-adozen more. Maiorano sank one of two free shots, but Brooklyn USA stayed with them.

Both teams would score 8 in the third. The quarter ended with Kings Bay leading 18-15.

Rockaway would open up the fourth as if were a new game. Just as they did in the first, the beach team came out hot. Maiorano hit a jumper to start the scoring. Mannino added a free throw. Kings Bay would coast in from there as Loconte added 7 more points in the final frame to finish with a doubledouble, 17 points (7-14 FG’s) and 10 rebounds. Great Job!

They would only allow B-USA to score 2 points in the 4th as they dug down on D and walked away with a 28-15 victory as the final buzzer sounded.
