Lew To The Rescue

Dear Editor:

I thought I should take a moment in the midst of the madness all around us to share a small piece of good news. While attending a 100 Precinct Community Council meeting last night, I mentioned to anyone who’d listen that there had been a water main leak in front of an unoccupied house on my block for nearly a month. I’d called 311 many times, the DEP, the Public Advocate’s Office and finally the NY Attorney General’s office to seek help in correcting the problem. The water had been running so long we were worried about it damaging the street and sidewalks and just yesterday it had frozen over the entire length of the block.

Lew Simon heard me and asked the address. He immediately left the meeting to make a phone call, assuring me upon his return that it would be fixed in a matter of hours.

To my amazement, at about 1:45 a.m. a crew of no less than four large vehicles appeared on my block and - while jack hammering at 2 a.m. is very unpleasant - the job was completed in no time and the leak is gone! Thank you, Lew Simon, for your sincere concern and prompt action when no one else took any.
