Idea Day At PS 207 – What A Great Idea!

PS 207 celebrated Idea Day on January 25th at PS 207 in Howard Beach. The fun day was organized and coordinated by Barbara King and members of the PS 207 Idea Club and the school’s Student Council. The entire school including students and staff participated and offered ideas about anything and everything. The Idea Club will sort through the hundreds of ideas and select the best ones and give prizes to the winners.

Rick Horan and Kevin Boyle who are involved in a project called Ideas Wanted were on hand to film and interview the students. They were impressed with the ideas they heard about improving the school and the community, especially those that addressed those ideas about making schools and neighborhoods more resilient in this post-Sandy world.

Idea Day had been in the works since early in the school year but was put on hold because the school and neighborhood suffered severe damage from Hurricane Sandy. According to Horan, nothing can get in the way of a good idea and in that spirit King and the Idea Club got right back to work when school reopened and made plans for Idea Day.

King said Idea Day was a great opportunity for students to think creatively and share ideas that could help the school, the community, and maybe, the world.

Principal Linda Spadaro was a big supporter of Idea Day and expects it to become a school tradition.

Boyle said he thinks PS 207 is the first school in the country to celebrate Idea Day. He and Horan hope to grow the event so that many schools partake in the creative fun. Interested schools can contact them at ideas@ideasimprov.com
