Graybeards Celebrate At 12th Annual Dinner Dance

More than 500 revelers set upon El Caribe in Brooklyn to let off some pent up Sandy steam and did so in rollicking fashion. Although well known as one of the most effective non-profits in Rockaway, the Graybeards also pride themselves on knowing how to have a good time. By all reported accounts, they succeeded. El Caribe proved to be the perfect venue and DJ’s Timmy and James Tubridy kept the dance floor full.

Steve Stathis and Mike Lee presided over the affair before handing the mic to NBC Television’s Brian Williams. The guest host, a friend of Graybeard Jim McCool, showed a deft comedic side as he delivered a series of crowd-pleasing one-liners.

As is the tradition, the Graybeards honor individuals and groups who make a difference in the lives of others through charity and good deeds.

Kevin Breen received the Don Hart Memorial Award and Dan Mundy accepted a “Special Recognition Award” on behalf of the Jamaica Bay EcoWatchers. Also being honored was Nick Compagnone who along with Matt Petronis raised significant money online for the Graybeards in the weeks immediately following Sandy.
