Sub Novices Winning Run
The outcome wasn’t pretty as the squad lost 50-22 to their much bigger counterparts, but the smaller seven players that were capable of making the game played their hearts out, especially in the beginning.
Montebello jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before Kings Bay could get on the board, with Patrick Powderly hitting the back end of two free throws he earned while getting fouled on a jumper. Dominick Maiorano and Ian Byrne nailed two treys and kept the game tight at 10-7, still in the first. Montebello would close out the first frame with two more to make it 12-7.
Brendan Watters, Joe Featherstone, and Daniel Endall kept Montebello honest in the early stages of the second stanza when Maiorano drained another trifecta to close the gap to 12-10.
If only the story kept going along like this, but it was not meant to be. There was only so much Rockaway could do as the bigger home team went on a 22-1 run to open the score to 34-11 at the end of three.
Dante DeSilvia continued to crash the boards against the taller foes and got involved in the scoring in the fourth. He would foul out for the second consecutive game for his strong efforts.
Maiorano would lead the Kings Bay scorers, followed by Byrne, DeSilvia, and Powderly.
Kings Bay Novice team will play their next game on Saturday, January 26th, at P.S. 52 in Brooklyn.
