(Photos by Ed Gormley) It happened again. For the second time in a week a water main break occurred on the beach at Beach 136th Street. This time on Friday, January 11th and this time water spouted 40 feet in the air.

A NYC Department of Environmental Conservation spokesperson Mercedes Padilla confirmed that the agency received a report on the break at 2 p.m. and responded immediately.

The DEC confirmed it affected an area between Beach 134th and Beach 140th Street. Water service was shut down for three fire hydrants and 20 single family while repairs were made.

Crews replaced a gate on the 12 inch main and services were restored by 9 p.m.
