Rockaway Kings Bay Sub Novices’ Perfect Weekend

The Rockaway Kings Bay team completed their perfect weekend with 20-15 triumph over Brooklyn USA from Flatbush this past Sunday at the Kings Bay Gym in Brooklyn. Great defense from Aidan O’Sullivan, Sean O’Hagan and Luca Perrotta kept things close in the first quarter, with Rockaway taking a 4- 3 lead into the second stanza.

James Walker, Thomas Davey and Mikey O’Sullivan shut down the Flatbush team in the second as Dylan Loconte, Matty Glynn, and Petey Maiorano all got involved in the scoring to give the beach team a 10-5 lead at the half.

Nick Abernathy caused a steal in the 3rd and Freddy Teich drained the team’s only points in the quarter while B-USA cut Rockaway’s lead to 12-11 going into the final frame.

B-USA went on top early into the fourth, 13-12 when Maiorano got butchered going up for the layup and converted one of his two free throws to even the score at 13. Lenny Mannino found the bottom of the net to give Rockawaya2pointlead,15-13.Rockaway would open it up a little more just a few seconds later as Loconte went strong in the lane, got drilled, and hit his shot for the “and 1”. He would make the free throw to make it 18-13. The teams exchanged buckets once more before the final bell sounded in the Rockaway victory. Maiorano and Loconte led all scorers finishing the game with 7 points each, followed by Glynn, Mannino, and Teich. Rockaway will play their next game on Sunday, January 20 at 11 a.m.at Kings Bay.
