Lew To The Rescue
Like many of the people living in Rockaway whose homes were damaged by Sandy, I too called some of the local contractors for help in restoring my electric, plumbing and heating system. Several appointments were scheduled only for me to wait home and have no one show up or even call to explain why they were not coming.
I heard about the NYC Rapid Repair program. I registered on the very first day. I was informed someone would contact me in 7-10 days for an inspection.
I tried to call Rapid Repair several times after waiting 14 days, only to be told that they only take information, and have no contact numbers to call the contractors to see when repairs would be done.
I went to the NYC Rapid Repairs location at the Arverne By The Sea area and was put in touch with their Hot Line system and an inspection was scheduled for my home and completed on November 19th.
One month later on December 17th, while still waiting for repairs to be done to my home, either by Rapid Repairs or hiring my own contractors, I was talking with Lew Simon about my situation, and how no one came or called. I included the fact that that there is no one way to contact or speak to Rapid Repairs for answers or get any contractors to keep appointments.
Knowing that I have several medical problems that could be harmful to my health without heat in my home, he made a phone call to someone for me and the very next day, on December 18th, a team from NYC Rapid Repairs was at my home and within seven days my electricity was repaired and a new heating system installed.
I wish to thank Lew Simon for all the help he has given me and my family to get the work I required done. In addition he also helped other family members and my neighbors in getting Rapid Repairs to do the work in their homes. I hope the Rockaway community can somehow help him find a location to rebuild his office so he can continue to do the good work he does for the people of Rockaway.
