MTA Announces Free Travel App

MTA Bridges and Tunnels has announced a new free app, MTA Drive Time, which shows motorists how traffic is moving at its seven bridges and two tunnels.

It joins a suite of other apps developed by the MTA to give customers more information including Subway Time, Bus Time, and Train Time.

MTA Drive Time is available for free download at the Apple store or Google Play for both iPhones and Android devices.

The Drive Time app was launched in May, 2012. Travel times are gathered using data collected from E-ZPass transponders.

The data is scrambled and encrypted so the account remains anonymous.

The information is only used to estimate travel times.

Drive Time information is intended to be accessed by motorists before they begin driving or by passengers using smart phones.

The MTA reminds all that New York law prohibits cell phone use while driving.
