Candidate Selvena Brooks: Rebuild Now
Selvena Brooks, candidate for New York City Council in the 31st District, is running under the party name Rebuild Now. In a statement, Brooks said, “This morning, I proudly filed my petitions for the special election to fill the vacant 31st Council City district in Queens, under the party name “Rebuild Now.”
Brooks is at least the third candidate with an eye on the council seat. She expects her efforts to resound in the district. “Throughout the weekend, my volunteers and I knocked on doors across this district, talking to family after family who are hoping for a Council member who will put our community first. I am asking for people’s support on the Rebuild Now line, because we need strong leadership in not only rebuilding from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, but also rebuilding our education system, local economy and neighborhoods. With experience working in the government, non-profit and the private sector, I know how to take on tough fights and win, and that’s the kind of Council member that residents of Arverne, Bayswater, Edgemere, Far Rockaway, Laurelton, Springfield Gardens and Rosedale deserve.
“As a lifelong resident of Southeast Queens, as a homeowner and as a taxpayer, I look forward to continuing this dialogue with all of my neighbors, and look forward to serving my community in the best ways possible.”
The special election is being held because James Sanders is relinquishing his City Council seat as he moves on to the New York State Senate.
