St. Francis Novice Blue On A Roll
The 5th graders from Saint Francis are tearing their league apart with an average margin of victory greater than 15 points.
The novice team easily beat their friends and brothers from Good Shepherd in Brooklyn this past Saturday, 24-8. The game was played at their “alternate home court”, St. Edmunds High School, in Brooklyn.
Mike DeMarco opened the game with a hot hand, dropping 4 in the first frame and Cooper Nagel buried a jumper to give the blue team an early commanding lead which they never feared giving away.
Dominick Maiorano led all scorers with 8 and Kyle Cornish would finish with 6, but the full story lies with the stellar defense that was played by Patrick Powderly, Joseph Featherstone, and Christian Agoglia, who combined for 5 steals and 10 rebounds.
James Agoglia made sure no player came into his zone for an easy shot. Dante Dasilvia and Michael Breslin helped out with 2 blocks and a steal.
The basketballers from Rockaway were to have another game on Sunday but the other team failed to show up, ending in a forfeit.
The word is out that they are the team to beat.
Said a team spokesperson, “Let’s hope they can keep this great run alive!”
