New Voices Needed
If you read Tuesday's article in the Queens new section of the Daily News you would think that there is no need to come out and vote for the vacant City Council seat of the 31st District. The powers that be have chosen the two most viable candidates, but there is room for more. This special runoff election set for February 19th can be the turning point for a district that has been neglected for years. Candidates must collect 1,350 signatures by January 15th and have them approved by the Board of Elections to be on the ballot.
The 31st district needs change. Gun violence continues to run rampant. Lack of programs leave our youth with little to no choices. The same old names. The same old places equals the same old outcome. We have an opportunity to have our voices heard. Now is the time, many of those residents affected by hurricane Sandy are still suffering from the aftermath of the storm. When FEMA does nothing and your elected officials lack vision, the community suffers. You must have a vision for your community no matter how things appear to be.
