Despite the horrific effects of Hurricane Sandy, donations from across the country, including within the tri-state area and the Rockaway community, have flooded into PS/MS 183Q.

This pre-K to eighth grade school has received hundreds of toys, blankets, toiletries, coats, school supplies, book bags, uniforms and loads of clothing to help in the restoration of their students’ lives.

During the month of December children of all ages and grades were given gifts. “But,” said a school spokesperson, “more than anything, their families have more hope and joy than we could have ever imagined because other people cared so much.”

She stated “The students and families may be challenged with seeking new apartments and homes, but most have been given joy through the efforts of those people willing to help families face trials and tribulations with the unselfish giving of so many individuals.”

The PS/MS 183Q teachers and staff wished to thank everyone responsible for placing a smile on the face of a child or parent.

According to the school those helping PS/MS 183Q included the First Congregational Church on Beach 94th Street, The National Guard, the Red Cross, NYC Fire Department, Toys for Tots, The Church in the Garden, Shoes4Africa, Mr. Osmin and Embrace Ya Kid, Inc.
