Mary Julia Summers
Mary Julia Summers, who worked for the NYC Housing Authority, died on December 9 at age 62.
Born in Epes, Alabama, she lived in the Rockaways for more than 25 years and was involved with St. John’s Baptist Church in Far Rockaway.
Summers is preceded in death by grandparents, Lewis and Katie Gray; oldest brother, Robert Dunning; grandson, Shaheem Berry; and husband, Alvin Bubba Summers Sr.
Summers is survived by son, Alvin Summers Jr., daughter Tara L. Summers, sister Sinder M. Dunning, godsons/ nephews, Tyshon Mitvhell, Martici Dunning and Taheem Smith; goddaughters/nieces Lashon Dunning and Deandra Stewart; mother Leona Dunning; mother-in-law, Lenell Summers; grandson, Shadell Summers; granddaughters, Markelle Henderson Summers, Shamayne Summers, Shamara Summers, Aeriyona Summers, Ajanae Summers; step granddaughter, Shawana Britt; godchildren, Zhaziya Mitchell and Tyshon Mitchell Jr.; brothers, Byron (Annie) Dunning and Lewis (Patricia) Dunning; sisters, Katie (Ira) Stewart, Katherine Bailey, Johnnie (Paul) Johnson, Ella Dunning and Josie (Willie) Dunning-Mitchell; godparents, Mary Allen, Mary Maxison and Emma Ross; godsisters Doris, Jennifer, Mary and also Doris Blackwell; and close friends Eva Holman, Peggy Whitehead and Virginia Voodoo.
