Halt Gas Line Now

Dear Editor,

Although everything seemed to stop dead after Sandy when focusing on rebuilding and remediation consumes and continues to consume all of our waking hours, the one time I allowed myself to think about and for the peninsula, I thought about the Natural Gas Pipeline and how it would survive, in light of a storm. Within the last month, President Obama okayed the pipeline which would go from the ocean, under Riis Park where it would split, half to a station in Floyd Bennet Field and half up Jamaica Bay probably to bring natural gas to Broad Channel. Let it be known that were that pipeline in place during Sandy, our West End and the MP Bridge could have been blown to bits. I fervently believe the plan should be revisited and eventually scrapped before National Greed (sic) plants a bomb beneath us, the ramifications of which in a serious storm, could put the finishing touches on the extinction of Rockaway's West End.
