The event, which ran from 12 to 4 p.m. was created by a Sorrentino staff member after hearing kids in her afterschool program mention they weren’t able to go trick-or-treating for Halloween, in many cases spent Thanksgiving away from home, and may not have had a normal Christmas or Hanukkah celebration.

“Everything Day” gave them the opportunity to celebrate all these holidays at once.

Each room of the center was decorated for a different holiday. The first featured a haunted house and treats made by the kids in the center’s culinary program.

The next room presented a Thanksgiving luncheon with food provided by the Red Cross.

In the last room each child received a present donated by the Turn 2 Foundation. They got to decorate the center’s “giving tree” with an ornament they made on one of the center’s computers.

The event was open to participants in Sorrentino’s free after-school program, their siblings and their parents. Parents were invited to attend a free meditation class.

More than 250 people attended the event.
