School Administrators Help Their Own
Members of the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS), along with school leaders nationwide, have contributed more than $15,000 to the SAANYS Member-to-Member Relief Fund to assist colleagues experiencing losses to home and property from Hurricane Sandy.
Post Hurricane Sandy, SAANYS received calls from both concerned members and administrators who experienced devastating destruction from the storm. Serving as a liaison between the groups, SAANYS created a Member to-Member Relief Fund for members to contribute to a direct fund for their colleagues and, for those members in need to receive monetary relief grants.
"There has been a tremendous outpouring of support, particularly from flood-prone communities around the nation," said Kevin Casey, SAANYS executive director.
“Donations have come from colleagues along the gulf coast and Irene victims in Schoharie County and New York's Southern Tier – colleagues who certainly empathize with such devastation."
The fund will remain open to donations and grants until January 2.
