Rockaway Tolls Increase

By Howard Schwach

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) board of directors voted on Wednesday on a series of fare and toll increases for the buses, subways and commuter bridges in the region, impacting those Rockaway residents who commute either by public transportation or by personal vehicle.

The following is a breakdown of the increases, which will take effect on March 1.

Express Buses:

Cash fare for a single ride rises to $6 from $5.50.

Seven-day express bus plus Metrocard rises to $55 from $50.

Subways and Local Buses

Bus fare rises to $2.50 from $2.25. Single-ride subway tickets rise to $2.75 from $2.50.

The multi-fare bonus discount for pay-per-ride Metrocards fall to 5 percent from 7 percent, but kick in at $5 instead of $10.

Seven-day unlimited Metrocard rises to $30 from $29.

Thirty-day unlimited Metrocards rise to $112 from $104.

New Metrocards will cost $1 extra, an attempt at encouraging reloading cards rather than buying new ones to reduce litter.

Bridges and Tunnels

Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Bridge and Cross Bay - Veterans Memorial Bridge cash toll raises to $3.75 from $3.35. EZ-Pass toll rises to $2 from $1.80, but residents rebate on Cross Bay Bridge remains in effect.
