The Interact Club, a student service club at Xaverian High School, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Verrazano, organized a 3- day bake sale, raffle and toy drive to benefit local hurricane relief efforts. Students collected 14 bags of toys, which will be donated to replenish Toys for Tots’ toy supply, and raised $2,000, which will go directly to the Graybeards, a nonprofit organization spearheading relief efforts in Rockaway.

The 3-day event closed with a raffle drawing and a visit with members from the Rotary Club of Verrazano Relief. Mark Fappiano, a Rotary Club member for the past 26 years, said, “The whole idea of bringing the Interact Club to Xaverian is giving back. In my business, with my kids, and with the students here, I like to stress that the most important thing is helping other people who maybe can’t help themselves.”

James Giustiniani, Interact Club’s president, reflected on the fundraiser, saying, “We were immediately drawn to the idea of doing a bake sale because the kids love the sweets and we knew we’d make a lot of money for a great cause. Lots of kids have wanted to be involved with hurricane relief, and this 3-day event was a great way to offer tons of opportunities for people to help out.”

Xaverian would like to thank the Grado and Giustiniani families for their generous support of the hurricane relief efforts at the school.
