RWA To Receive Proceeds From Fundraiser
The Queens Economic Development Corporation and the Queens Tourism Council invite you to kick-off the Holiday Season while showing support for your community.
Enjoy “Breakfast with Santa” at a local Applebee’s and help raise funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
On December 19, the Fresh Meadows Applebee’s will host the first of four Breakfast with Santa events.
The Jolly Man in Red will be at the 61-48 188 Street restaurant from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and for $10, guests can get a Polaroid photo with him and enjoy a buffet including scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, pancakes, bacon, toast, orange juice and coffee or tea.
For the same price on December 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Breakfast with Santa events will take place at Applebee’s restaurants in Bayside, 213- 29 26 Avenue, Rego Park, 95-25 Queens Boulevard, and Astoria, 38-01 35 Avenue. Proceeds from the breakfasts will go to QEDC/QTC, which will then distribute the largesse to the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, one of the first nonprofits to respond to Hurricane Sandy. RWA began giving homebound residents hot meals and providing emergency food and clothing from a firehouse.
Volunteers then delivered care packages of emergency supplies door-to-door all along the Rockaway peninsula and in public housing projects.
After the emergency phase, RWA volunteers have been assisting with largescale clean-ups, clearing streets of washed out cars, removing mountains of sand and debris and assisting businesses and homeowners in digging out their own properties.
RWA has also been distributing information on government services.

“In addition to serving great food and providing jobs in Queens, Applebee’s has been an integral part of the Queens Tourism Council,” said QEDC Executive Director Seth Bornstein. “QEDC is thrilled to partner with Applebee’s to offer a fun, inexpensive breakfast in support of relief efforts for borough residents and businesses that are still reeling from Hurricane Sandy.”
QEDC and QTC have been involved with Hurricane Sandy relief since the superstorm passed through the borough. First, the entities collected water, toiletries, medicine, clothes and other items from QTC members.
They then spent days delivering supplies to a transfer station in Queens College and actual points of service in the Rockaways.
One QTC member, the United States Tennis Association, donated $300,000 worth of items and $100,000 in cash to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York. With funds raised during the Breakfast with Santa events, QEDC and QTC hope to continue serving storm victims.
For years, Applebee’s has hosted Breakfast with Santa events at the company’s Staten Island restaurants to raise money for the Staten Island Children’s Campaign and Trust.
