Sandy-Related Burglaries Way Up

It’s adding insult to injury.

Many of those impacted by Superstorm Sandy were victimized once again after the storm passed by thugs looking for swag in the wake of the storm.

Statistics released this week by the New York City Police Department show that burglaries are up by 685.7 percent in Far Rockaway’s 101 Precinct and by a whopping 1,100 percent in the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Park.

With homes dark and, in many cases abandoned, the thugs had easy pickings, especially in Breezy Point, where more than 110 homes were destroyed by a fast-moving fire and dozens more were left bare by the raging storm surge.

In the 100 Precinct, the numbers for the last month show that there were four burglaries during November of 2011 compared to 48 this month.

In the 101 Precinct, there were seven burglaries during November in 2011 while there were 55 this month.
