Scholars’ Set For January 2 Opening

Thugs Hit School for IPads, Computers

With the reopening of PS/MS 114 on Beach 134 Street on Tuesday, Scholars’ Academy on Beach 104 Street remains the only west end public school that is still closed. Department of Education sources said this week, however, that the middle and high school units will reopen on January 2, bringing home the teachers and students who have been working in Brooklyn schools since the storm.

Police sources say that the school will open with some of its valuable electronics gone, not from the four feet of storm water that inundated the first floor of the building, but from thugs who used the tech-savvy school as a target of opportunity.

Sometime between October 26 and November 15, when the theft was reported to local police, 80 iPads, as well as computers, calculators, medical defibrillators and other equipment were removed from a locked container in the building.

Police and Department of Education sources declined to say whether or not an inside job is suspected.
