Marching Band Brightens Far Rock Holiday

By Miriam Rosenberg

Smiles were put on the faces of all those who saw the band. Smiles were put on the faces of all those who saw the band. First they marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, then they came to the streets of Far Rockaway and brought smiles to all who saw them.

They are the Father Ryan Marching Band from Nashville, Tennessee. According to Nashville’s The Tennessean newspaper, the band wanted to do something charitable while in New York. The New York and Grace Interdenominational Church wanted a band from the Thanksgiving parade to send to the Rockaway’s. From that came the one band parade through downtown Far Rockaway that culminated at PS 53 on Nameoke Street where Thanksgiving meals with all the trimmings were being served.
