SFDS ‘S’ Team Slips Past Our Lady of Hope

The SFDS ‘S’ team completed the CYO soccer regular season by going undefeated in a victory over Our Lady of Hope. The boys traveled to Juniper Park on Saturday morning game and faced the challenge of a muddy field and a short roster.

Robbie Agolia slipped his way to the ball many times and kept the game tied at 1 at the half. Luke Carson stole an inbound pass and scored for the third graders. Demetri Condolios was unbeatable on defense, while Matt Marten, Lenny Manino, Kieran Courtney and Kevin Dougherty each slid through the mud and stopped the Hope offense. In the second half, Matthew Sweeny, Jason Machado, Nicholas Fiore and Gunner Skammel poured it on for St. Francis. Jojo Grillo stole some key passes from Hope.

With under 4 minutes left in the game, Chris Light took a great pass, cut across the Hope goal and put a strong shot past the Hope goalie for a 2-1 SFDS lead. The game ended with a Hope free kick, but the shot went wide as Robbie A stood ready. The lead stood up to carry the boys to a 9-0-1 record. Coaches Matt Courtney and Sue Carson thank the boys for a terrific regular season. We all look forward to the playoffs starting October 27 or 28.
