BCAC Shamrock Girls Finish Strong
The BCAC pee-wee girl’s soccer team concluded the fall season in good fashion. Friday night the Shamrocks hosted a powerful SFDS team at Memorial Field. Throughout the first half SFDS dominated play but were unable to penetrate the shamrock defense.
BC played the complete team game, with all-star sweeper Peyton Kalisak running the “D”. Shamrock fullbacks Amanda Keller and Nicole Vega were outstanding in keeping the defensive zone tight. Early in the second half, things got exiting as Danielle Shea, and Kimberly Kelliher co-coordinated on a breakout that sent Jackie Taly off to the races. Taly fed the budding superstar forward Taira Torres for a 1-0 lead.
SFDS came back strong and tied the game minutes later. As the Shamrocks regrouped, Vega boomed a goal kick to mid-field where Ashley Nieto gained control and found Abby Turner in the clear, Turner freed up Torres who was gone to net the second goal for the lead. The Shamrock team continued to control the ball with tremendous efforts by Thais Torres and mid fielders Aylssa Nieto and Brianna Dady, earning the 2-1 win for netminder Josephine Payne.
On Sunday the Shamrock girls came up short vs. OLH at Juniper Park. After a great first half where BCAC star Victoria Rodriguez seemed to control the tempo by herself giving scoring opportunities to Taira Torres, and Jasmine Hewitt, but the OLH goalkeeper made some beautiful saves protecting the scoreless half. Needing a win to advance, BCAC coaches changed the game plan by moving Peyton Kalisak to forward to join Jackie Taly and the Torres sisters on the attack, but the OLH goalie was on her game, turning back all advances. Great efforts were displayed by Madison Taravella, Amanda Keller, and Team Captain Nicole Vega, as the Shamrocks came up empty.
BCAC coaches Tim Vega and Mike Shea want to thank the girls for a very memorable season. Special thanks go to number fan Natasha Vega, who stood by her team rain or shine.
