Zoophobia, KidsmArt And More
Commentary By Susan Hartenstein

RAA’s sTudio 7 gallery has been transformed into a zoo unlike any other you’ve visited on a sunny family vacation. Do not stick your hands in the cages! Do not feed the beasts! And above all, stay with your guide!

Environmental habitats abound. These plains, jungles and arctic environs are crawling with four-legged carnivores, two-headed beasts and all things you wish you had never come to the zoo to see. Corners crawl with critters nefarious and damned.

This Zoophobia Halloween experience will be open to terrify you and your family and friends on Friday, October 26, Saturday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 31 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. If you emerge unscathed from this hellish Zoo, chills will continue to crawl up your spine as you make your way out of dark and devilish Fort Tilden. Remember, volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Like all trips to the zoo, wear comfortable clothing and shoes for a safe, cool night. And, please, no easily traumatized little ones – this fun, free event is interactive.

Where can you bring the little ones? To kidsmART, of course. The program is now open, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. If you haven’t registered, please do so and submit your forms to RAA’s office. Once you’ve turned in your forms, children are welcome to begin attending the following Monday.

On the list of what’s up at kid-smART – friendly bats are flying through the air and silhouettes of kidsmART kids as witches and ghouls adorn the walls. There’s homework help for the first forty-five minutes, followed by snacks and then fun, fun, fun.

Perhaps your painter needs to turn on his inner Picasso or your chess genius needs to up his game. Bring them to kidsmART where they’ll also enjoy sculpting, arts and crafts, theater games, jewelry making and so much more. kidsmART serves 60 children per day, first-come, first-serve.
