By Howard Schwach

First, the good news. Crime is down by percentage points in the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Beach and even the number of shooting events has fallen, despite the fact that there have been two homicides in the precinct this year.

Then, the bad news. Crime is up by nearly 36 percent in the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway and the number of shooting events is up by 18 percent this year.

The latest crime statistics for the year to date, which were released on October 7, show a mixed bag for our two precincts.

In the 100 Precinct, homicides are up to two this year from none at this time last year.

Rapes are up as well, to four this year from two at this time last year.

Larcenies are up as well, as they are all over the city.
