Crime Down In West End, Up In East End
First, the good news. Crime is down by percentage points in the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Beach and even the number of shooting events has fallen, despite the fact that there have been two homicides in the precinct this year.
Then, the bad news. Crime is up by nearly 36 percent in the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway and the number of shooting events is up by 18 percent this year.
The latest crime statistics for the year to date, which were released on October 7, show a mixed bag for our two precincts.
In the 100 Precinct, homicides are up to two this year from none at this time last year.
Rapes are up as well, to four this year from two at this time last year.
Larcenies are up as well, as they are all over the city.
Petit larceny is up by 38 percent, to 290 this year from 210 at this time last year.
In the 101 Precinct, larcenies are up significantly. Grand larceny is up nearly 90 percent, to 171 from 91; grand larceny, auto is up 20 percent, to 43 from 36 and petit larceny is up 30 percent, to 371 from 285.
All told, crime in the 100 Precinct in the six “index crime” categories dictated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is down 0.25 percent
In the 101, overall index crime statistics show an increase of 35.74 percent.
The index crimes include murder, rape, robbery, felonious assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny, auto.
