Peanut Shamrocks Show Support For Breast Cancer Research
The 2012 Peanut Shamrocks were all wearing pink socks in unison to support Breast Cancer research last Sunday when they traveled to Bethpage. The Shamrocks will continue to wear the pink socks for the remainder of their games in October. This week’s captains, Frankie Sinisgalli, Joseph Esposito, Sean Mitzkavetch and Casey Allen, helped the team win the coin toss and elected to start on offense.
The offensive line of Joseph Parsley, Mitzkavetch, Hayden Malsy, Lukas Weiss, Logan Hilgendorf and Sinisgalli opened up some early holes. Quarterback Aidan Leary and running backs Matt Stack and J. Esposito played hard.
The Shamrock defensive line of Casey Allen, Dean Esposito, James Arena, Logan Kalisak, Sinisgalli and Mike Borhi took the field along with linebackers James Ferchland, Matt Martin, Lukas Weiss, Joseph Esposito, Matt Stack and safety Tommy Martin.
The Eagles scored to take a 6-0 lead, but the Shamrock offense would answer. J. Esposito converted a third down by rushing for 15 yards. Matt Martin would break a few tackles for an 8-yard touchdown and a 6-6 tie. Sinisgalli and Weiss would make some key tackles on the Eagles’ next possession but they scored to take a 12-6 lead.
The Shamrocks would answer on offense. Hilgendorf would move to quarterback, Leary ran twice for 15 yards and Stack would bring the ball to the Eagles 1-yard line. Sinisgalli would take the handoff for a TD to tie the game at 12. Bethpage tried to score with 30 seconds remaining in the half but Borhi and Weiss would deny the Eagles heading into halftime. The Eagles would score to open the third quarter and an 18-12 lead. The Shamrock offense would stall and the Eagles offense would score again to take a 24-12 lead but the Shamrocks would rally.
Weiss and Stack ran some counter plays bringing the ball to the Eagle 8-yard line. Joseph Esposito would sweep right and break two tackles for a touchdown to close the gap to 24-18. The Eagles scored to take a 30-18 lead, but the Shamrock offense came right back. Weiss ran 16 yards. Matt Stack would take the next handoff and followed key blocks from Mitzkavetch, Allen, Malsy, Parsley and Ferchland to rumble for a 24-yard touchdown and close the gap to 30-24.
The Shamrocks defense needed to make a quick stop. Mitzkavetch and James Arena would make key tackles to stop the Eagle offense but the Shamrocks ran out of time.
The Shamrocks missed Jeremiah O’Shea who couldn’t make the game. Offensive yardage leaders include: Stack (89 yards, touchdown), J. Esposito (44 yards, TD), M. Martin (22 yards, TD), Weiss (20 yards), Leary (15 yards), Sinisgalli (5 yards, TD). Defensive tackle leaders: Weiss (6), M. Marin (6), Mitzkavetch (3), Borhi (3), Arena (3), Dean Esposito (2), Stack (2), Leary (1) and T. Martin (1).
The Peanut Shamrocks play home at the BCAC Memorial Field the next two weeks this Sunday at 10 a.m. and October 28 at 11 a.m. Please come and watch them as they continue to play hard and learn the great game of football.
