Midget Shamrocks Gain Clutch Road Win
The BCAC Midget Shamrocks are on a roll as they have now strung together two victories in a row. This week’s successful football venture came on the road as the Green Machine defeated the Glen Cove Cardinals 26-19. Even though the final deficit was only 7 points, the victory was never in doubt. The Cardinals would score on the first play of the game to go up 6-0 on the Shamrocks, but then the Green Machine defense would shut them down for the rest of the game.
Ryan Hanning, Michael O’Connell and Vincent Powell would lead all defenders with four tackles each. Not be outdone, Luke Jackowski answered with a sack and Sam Fretto, Peter Meehan and Jack Allen each had a fumble recovery. The Shamrocks would keep the Cardinals out of the end zone for a majority of the game, excluding two scores very late in the game.
Other big contributors on the defensive side of the ball were Sebastian Frieberg, Andrew Visconti, Vincent Nizzo, Christian Correa, Richard Tally, JJ Negron and Anthony Cassillo.
The Shamrocks were fantastic on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Jack Collins continued to be the general on the field that he has been all season by rushing for 46 yards on the day. The big story, though, was last year’s overall
MVP Peter Meehan, who had his best game of the season. Meehan would rush for 193 yards on the day and end up in the end-zone four different times. All of Meehan’s touchdowns were more than 30 yards, with his longest being a 60-yard dash from the line of scrimmage. Coach Gene gave much of the credit to the offensive line that was amazing all day, led by Tommy Corbett, Liam Doda, Eddie Sinisgalli and Joey Cassillo.
Next week, the Shamrocks are home for the first of a two game home stand. They will face the East Meadow Rams on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the BCAC Memorial Field. So come on out to support your team and make sure to buy some brand new fabulous Shamrock merchandise being sold at all home games.
Now it is time for the BCAC Shamrock Fan of the Week, or should I say fans? That’s right, this week we have two winners, and they are Mrs. Sinisgalli and Mrs. Clark. They are both huge fans of the Shamrocks and are at every game and practice. They also baked cupcakes for all the Shamrock teams last week. Coach Sean could not be reached for comment as he was busy stuffing his face with many different styles of delicious cupcakes. So the moral of the story is if you want to be Fan of the Week, bring cupcakes.
