Muni-Meter Faults

Dear Editor,

Hello, I am a concerned citizen who resides in Neponsit. I have become increasingly frustrated with muni meters that I rarely go to Beach 116 Street or Beach 129 Street to shop anymore. There are so many things bad about them. They often do not work properly, you can’t add time without using all previously bought time first, and if it’s windy out it’s virtually impossible to get your car door closed without the receipt turning over or falling off the dashboard altogether. That’s just to name a few reasons why they are a hardship. I generally take a quick trip to Howard Beach to do my shopping these days as they still have the regular meters in place. I’ve heard recently that the community boards in that area have been fighting the installation of the muni meters which is why they have yet to be installed there. I can’t verify that for a fact but it would seem there is some truth to it since the DOT said that all of Queens would have the muni meters in place by this past June. I would really prefer to support the local businesses in my local area of the Rockaways but I can no longer stomach dealing with these muni meters. I can’t believe the ridiculous amounts of money that were spent on these machines when there was nothing wrong with the regular single space meters. Basically what I would like to know is, if there is anything in the works being done to address the issues caused by these muni meters? And is there any chance to fight to get the regular meters back so we can all live peacefully?
