Good Luck To MDP School

Dear Editor,

On October 11 the Rockaway Civic Association had a meeting at the Knights of Columbus at Beach 90 Street. Eric Ulrich and Joseph Addabbo had their first of three debates. Guest speakers were Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder and Jo’Anne Brancato, principal of Martin De Porres High School. The debate was informative and spirited as both candidates shared their views. Phillip Goldfeder told the crowd about some things he is working on for the Rockaways. Jo’Anne Brancato gave the audience an education on the history of the high school, and the courses taught there, which are: automotive, childcare certification, horticulture, graphic design, and culinary arts. She said that the school employs 115 people, and has a student body of 264 students. Jo’Anne is very open to any group in the Rockaway community who would like to learn more about the school. Jo’Anne and her staff stress discipline, and monitor the students, coming in by bus and leaving by bus and train. Let’s all wish Jo’Anne, and her staff success as teaching children with special needs requires a great deal of dedication.
