Another Attack On Teachers
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his hand-picked education czar Dennis Walcott have been demonizing teachers for years.
If you listen to them and their financial industry friends, all of the faults of the public school system lie with the teachers and their union and have nothing to do with the students or their parents.
Nobody believes them anymore, especially now that there is proof that all of Bloomberg’s reliance on the unreliable standardized is just smoke and mirrors to give him a legacy that he does not deserve. Now, one final attack before Bloomberg goes into that good billionaire night and leaves the city to others, who will hopefully be less disingenuous than he is.
That attack is on teacher training. When I was a young teacher, one had to actually be able to read and write English and had to prove through stringent tests that they knew both their subject matter and how best to teach that material to students.
Under Bloomberg, that is all gone.
Now, teachers have to pass only the mirror test. If they are breathing and have the requisite college credits, they are made teachers. Of course, administrators are made the same way. No need to have school experience or pass a test. Go to Tweed and pass go.
The newest attack says that the colleges are doing such a poor job that they should be cut from the process.
Bloomberg wants to set his own requirements to become a city teacher and you can bet they include a pledge of fealty to Bloomberg and his vassals.
That is all it takes.
