Shamrocks Rushing Stars Lead BCAC ToVictory

The captains for the BCAC Shamrocks, led by #21 Matthew McDonough, stand at midfield for the coin toss. This past Saturday night, the BCAC Shamrocks won one for McDonough, as they honored their injured teammate with a 27-14 victory over the Babylon Panthers. Minutes before game time, #21 Matthew Mc- Donough showed up to root his team on and was then asked by his teammates if he would be the honorary captain that night. All the Shamrocks wore #21 on their helmets and jerseys to show their support for Matty. From that point on, every fan in the stands knew that the Green Machine could not loose on this night.

The Shamrocks controlled both sides of the ball all night, racking up 302 yards on the ground and scoring four touchdowns on the day. Peter Meehan would have two of those scores alone, and was joined by Jack Allen and Anthony Cassillo for the other two scores. The Shamrocks would also get extra point runs from Michael O’Connell and Andrew Visconti. Quarterback Jack Collins also completed an extra point conversion in the air as he completed a 5-yard strike to James Tuohey in the end zone.

The offensive line blocked like a professional NFL team all day, as they were led by Luke Jackowski, Eddie Sinisgalli, Tommy Corbett, Sebastian Frieberg, Joe Cassillo, Sam Fretto, and Liam Doda.

On the defensive side, the Shamrocks kept the Panthers out of the end zone most of the day, only surrendering two touchdowns very late in the game. The defense was led by Vincent Powell who had seven tackles on the day. Other big contributors were Ryan Hanning, Nicco Finizio, J.J. Negron, Christian Correa, Jose Sanchez and Vincent Nizzo. The Shamrocks are now 2-2-1 at the halfway point of the season. The Shamrocks are on the road next Sunday as they take on the Glen Cove Cardinals at 12 p.m. So cancel all your Sunday morning plans if you can and join super-fan Tommy McCabe as he cheers on his favorite local football team. McCabe was actually heard saying after last week’s game that he roots for the Shamrock’s more than he does the Miami Dolphins.

This brings us now to the BCAC Fan of the Week, and it goes to Mr. and Mrs. Cassillo. They were the ones responsible for handing out the #21 stickers to all the players this past week.

Thank you for taking the time to do that and helping bring about team spirit.
