Gallagher Sisters Win Medals At NYC Mayor’s Cup
Congratulations go to Bishop Kearney’s freshmen cross-country team on their outstanding performance at the NYC Mayor’s Cup held last Saturday. The race was held over the rugged hills of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Forty-eight teams from the CHSAA, PSAL and private schools all compete for the tile of Mayor’s Cup champion.
Tessy Gallagher (Belle Harbor) sprinted to the front of the pack with the sound of the starter’s gun and never looked back until she crossed the finish line and was crowned the 2012 freshman Mayor’s Cup champion. Medals were awarded only to the top three finishers in the race of 350 runners. Tessy’s sister, Jackie Gallagher (Belle Harbor), was awarded the third place medal. Kailey O’Grady (Marine Park) finished in fifth place and just missed medaling, but showed tremendous effort with a blazing kick to the finish line running a personal best over the hills. Congratulations to the Kearney team as they prepare for this Saturday’s Manhattan College Invitational, which is the country’s largest high school cross country meet.
Best of luck ladies!
