Edgar Lawton, a longtime Rockaway resident, died September 28.
Lawton was born in Islandton, South Carolina on May 27, 1936. He worked for S&L Metal Company and lived in Rockaway for more than 30 years. Lawton was also a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church.
Lawton was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert Lawton and Charlie Lawton; sisters, Bernice Mitchell and Beaulah Jacobs.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lawton; children, Michelle Anderson (Victor), Debbie Stabler (Keith), Tiffany Stabler, Edgar Lawton Jr. (Victoria), Michael Lawton and Sharon Decoy (Antoine); sisters, Asiree Bacarmo (Herman) and Joyce Lawton; brothers, Eugene Lawton and John Lawton (Jeannette); sisters-in-law, Betty McDonald, Bobbi Mathies, Minnie Fairley, Lisa Williams, Rita Fay Macy, Pasty Michael, Ruby Duke and Mary McDonald; brothers-in-law, Charles Mathies, Jack Williams, Michael Macy and Johnny Michael; grandchildren, Thomas Chandler, Reneicya Chandler, Janise McCoy, Jazia Jones, Janeicya Jones, Sha-Tya Anderson, Jynette Lawton, Felicia Lawton, Nikia Lawton, Antoine Decay, Corey Decay and Michael Lawton; great-grandchildren, Tanyla Newson, Dionne Coldwell and William Dickens; one aunt and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and family and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Disposition took place at St. Michael’s Crematory, East Elmhurst, New York.
