Turner For Queens GOP Chair?
After a meteoric rise in Republican politics and then, just as meteoric a fall, Breezy Point resident Representative Bob Turner is looking to an elder statesman position as Queens County leader in an attempt to quell the rebellion against present county leaders by insurgents. Those insurgents include City Councilman Eric Ulrich.
According to published reports in the New York Post, GOP officials outside the borough are pushing Turner, who will be out of office in January, to fuse the party’s warring factions and Turner seems to be willing to take on the job.
“I’d hope to see what I can do. If I could bring peace to the valley, I’d be happy to do that. It’s a difficult, thankless job,” Turner told Post reporter Carl Campanile.
Republican insiders say that the present chair, Phil Ragusa, is on thin ice after Ulrich trounced his hand-picked candidate, Juan Reyes, in a recent primary election for State Senate, 70 percent to 30 percent.
