Pee-Wee Girls Enjoy Weekend
The BCAC Pee-Wee Shamrocks travelled to Crocheron Park on Saturday to face Blessed Sacrament in a soccer match. Taira Torres opened the scoring by taking a pass from Abby Turner, finding the back of the net. Torres would add three more goals in a breakout game.
Turner added 2 goals of her own, the first on a penalty kick and then early in the second half off a feed from Ashley Nieto. Madison Taravella and Alyssa Nieto sealed off the midfield, shutting down the OLBS offense. Great performances by Victoria Rodriguez and Kimberly Kelliher helped the stonewall defensive set of Nicole Vega, Amanda Keller and Peyton Kalisak ease the way for the Shamrocks, as they secured the win.
Sunday at Alley Pond Park proved to be a tougher game for the young Shamrock squad. In a back and forth battle vs. St. Gregory, Danielle Shea took a pass from Brianna Dady and fed Jackie Taly, who was flying down the right side, Taly saw Thais Torres cutting to the net and led her with a beautiful pass, Torres nailed the shot. St. Gregory came back quickly to tie the game at 1-1. Josephine Payne made a couple of key saves in the second half, enabling the Shamrocks to mount a sustained attack with multiple shots coming from Jasmine Hewitt, Taly, and the Torres sisters. St. Gregory’s goalkeeper did a great job stopping all second half shots to come away with a tie in a very exciting game. BCAC head coach Tim Vega has these girls playing great. The Shamrocks stand at 2-3-2, as they continue to improve every week.
