Midgets Fall Short To Visiting Bulldogs

The BCAC Shamrock Midgets had a tough game this week in many ways as they faced the undefeated North Babylon Bulldogs. The Shamrocks would score on the first series of the game on a 30-yard touchdown scramble by quarterback Jack Collins, and would end the day with 65 yards rushing.

The rest of the backfield made up of Jack Allen and Peter Meehan combined for another 84 yards rushing. The offensive line did their best to keep the Bulldogs out of the backfield, led by Luke Jackowski, Tommy Corbett, Joe Cassillo, Richie Taly, Sam Fretto and Liam Doda.

After the Shamrocks led 6-0, the Bulldogs running attack was just too much for the Green Machine to handle, as they would score 21 unanswered points. The defense played hard with Michael O’Connell having 6 tackles on the day. Andrew Visconti and James Tuohey each had 3 tackles. Early in the second half with the score only 14-6, Ryan Hanning came up with a huge fumble recovery to keep the game close. Other contributors on defense were Vincent Powell, Nicco Finizio, J.J.Negron, Christian Correa and Vincent Nizzo. In the end, the Shamrocks came up short, but are ready to get back on the winning track as they face Babylon at home this Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. The team knows many of you want to watch Notre Dame vs. Miami, but DVR that and come out to BCAC Memorial Field and cheer on these young warriors instead.

On a side note, there will be no Fan of the Week; instead we are giving out our first ever Shamrock of the Week. This honor goes out to Matthew McDonough, who is a true warrior in every sense of the word. The Midget Shamrocks wish #21 a speedy recovery and want him to know he will be truly missed this season, not just as a player but as a great friend to all the players on his team. Get well soon Matt.
