Get Out And Vote Drive In Redfern

Saturday, September 29 the Rockaway Youth Task Force (RYTF) spent the day knocking on doors registering voters in the Redfern Houses and the surrounding community. This was the first of a series of voter registration drives RYTF will host throughout the peninsula. Saturday, October 13 RYTF will be in the Hammel Houses and the surrounding communities registering voters. Among those who gave RYTF a hand was Mike Scala, who ran for Congress over the summer.

“We feel it is important that all exercise their right to vote and engage in the political process, no matter their political affiliation,“ said Arielle Newton, RYTF Political and Civic Engagement chair.

“Not only are we registering voters but we’re also dispelling rumors and educating our community about their rights as voters. I had a conversation with a young man who wasn’t a registered voter because he had been arrested and thought that he wasn’t allowed to vote,“ Milan Taylor, RYTF president, said.
