Midget Shamrocks Rush Past Levittown
After two heartbreaking games that resulted in a loss and a tie, the BCAC Midget Shamrocks finally got their first win of the season against the Levittown Red Devils.
The Shamrocks came into Levittown knowing that they needed a huge win to kick start their season and get on the right track. Things got started when running back Jack Allen broke a scoreless tie with a 12- yard touchdown. The Red Devils hung in there in the first half only trailing by seven at halftime.
The BCAC green machine would score on their opening drive of the second half on a 58-yard touchdown by quarterback Jack Collins, who would finish with a total of 91 yards rushing on the day. Pete Meehen joined in on the fun with a 60-yard touchdown, followed by a 7-yard touchdown by Matt McDonough.
The Shamrocks used their ground game to gain a lot of possession on offense. BCAC had a total 255 yards rushing on the day with 9 different backs, including Andrew Visconti, Anthony Cassillo and Ryan Hanning, carrying the ball with a lot of success. This ground assault was mainly successful thanks to the offensive line, who created plenty of holes for the running backs to get through. The line consisted of Luke Jackowski, Tommy Corbett, Joe Cassillo, Richie Taly, Sebastian Frieberg, Sam Fretto, Eddie Sinisgalli and Liam Doda.
The BCAC Shamrocks defense shined all day as well, led by linebacker Michael O’Connell, who had five tackles on the day. Rookie sensation Christian Correa also shined as he recorded his first three tackles of his young career. Other big contributors on defense were Vincent Powell, Jose Sanchez, Nicco Finizio, J.J.Negron, James Tuohey and Vincent Nizzo. The final score of the game was Shamrocks 26, Red Devils 14. The Shamrocks have a record of 1-1-1 on the season.
Next Sunday the Shamrocks are home as they take on the North Babylon Bulldogs at 11 a.m.
Come on down and watch the Shamrocks continue their winning streak and then stay for the Broad Channel Carnival that will be taking place all weekend in the BCAC Memorial Field parking lot adjacent to the field.
Now the big announcement, this week’s BCAC Shamrock Fan of the Week is former winner Dan Collins. He was so ecstatic about the Shamrock win, that he ran to the local store immediately after the game and bought all the players ice cream cones as a reward for a job well done. Well Dan, your selfless act and love of the Shamrocks have made you this season’s first Fan of the Week.
Who will be next? Rumor has it that Pee Wee Coach Pete Ward showed up to last week’s game trying to sway the vote in his favor.
