High School Roundup: Dolphins Sting Midwood
Beach Channel/Channel View got an all-around effort in securing their first win in the PSAL Championship Division on Saturday by defeating Midwood, 28-7. Dolphins coach Victor Nzaario felt his team gained a lot of confidence after almost copleting a comeback by scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter in losing to Grand Street Campus.
“They’re getting better. It’s frustrating with the numbers, but the guys I can count on are listening, pay attention. We executed a lot better than we did last week,” Nazario said. “The kids really followed the gameplan through. We were able to rely on things we can get better from.”
The Dolphins (1-2) responded after Joshua Gaddy scored on a rushing touchdown to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Starting quarterback Breland Archbold had an outstanding game with a 100-yard effort on the ground and scored wo rushing touchdowns. He also completed a touchdown pass to Justin Zemser. Chris Reed also did a solid job at running back by rushing for 90 yards on 14 carries, and scored a touchdown.
Nazario credited a Dolphins defense for continuing to show improvement week to week and shutting out the Hornets until Beach Channel put up 14 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Starting strong safety Marcus Wilcox had a team leading 9 tackles and recovered a fumble. Nkozi Stewart recorded 7 tackles with 2 for losses, and Zemser added 8 tackles.
The next matchup for Beach Channel is a visit to Curtis (1- 2) in Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. It was four years ago that the Dolphins recorded one of the biggest upsets in PSAL playoff history when the team, who was a 15th seed, defeated the No. 2 Warriors 8-0 in Staten Island in the first round.
Far Rockaway Educational Campus suffered a 30-28 defeat on the road against Stuyvesant High School on Friday night in Manhattan.

Beach Channel/Channel View almost completed a two-goal comeback on Tuesday afternoon against Campus Magnet. Bridgette Nolan scored in the first half, and Gabriela Martinez evened the game in the 62nd minute of the second half. The Dolphins couldn’t get the winning goal after twoovertimes was completed and had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home in a PSAL Queens ‘BVI’ contest. Scholars’ Academy, the PSAL Class ‘B’ defending city champions, got their season off to a flying start on Monday afternoon with a 2-0 (25-11, 25-5) victory over Campus Magnet.
Beach Channel/Channel View earned their first win of the season in a two set (25-16, 25-23) home win over August Martin last Monday afternoon. Shyanna Torres compiled a team high 8 assists, and 7 aces for the Lady Dolphins.
