Body Of BP Spear Fisherman Found

On Tuesday morning, the body of a Staten Island man identified by police as Yevgeniy Glebov, floated up in the ocean in front of the Surf Club in Breezy Point and was spotted by a tugboat crewman, bringing to an end a search that began on Friday morning, when a call to the 911 emergency system said that Glebov had been missing for several hours in the surf in front of the club.

Glebov, 29, was reported missing on Friday morning, September 14.

Sources say that he was an experienced diver and spear fisherman and often went into the surf without Scuba gear.

The search was carried out all day Friday and into the afternoon on Saturday by Coast Guard, NYPD and FDNY launches and by helicopter.

On Sunday, the search was called off by New York City Police and Coast Guard officials.

The diver had not been seen since 7 a.m. Friday.

Police sources say that the body has been turned over to the city’s chief medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
